The Question That Governs Your Life

What if I told you that there is a single question that’s running your life? When the answer to it is “yes,” you feel good about life. When you think the answer is “no,” you feel miserable.

According to Mike Foster, the author of Primal Questions, we all have one of seven possible questions that govern our lives in this way. This question is imprinted in early childhood. Read the list below and see which one strikes a chord with you.

  1. Am I safe?

  2. Am I secure?

  3. Am I loved?

  4. Am I wanted?

  5. Am I good enough?

  6. Am I successful?

  7. Do I have a purpose?

Foster argues that when the answer to our primal question is “no,” our inner child gets triggered and our emotions become chaotic, reacting disproportionately to what is actually happening. He calls this state the “Scramble.”

This week, I invite you to ask:

What is my “Scramble?” For what types of situations do my emotions seem to get out of control? Which of the seven questions might be getting a “no” during this situation? What about my childhood might have imprinted this question?

God bless,
Dan
