Opening Up Time

Last week, things that had been on my to-do list for a long time started to get done. It felt as if it were some kind of magic. I vacuumed and cleaned out the rubble left from demolition in our dining room (it had been sitting there for months). I created three garden arches out of hog panels. I dug trenches and planted four kinds of asparagus. I gave back the hog roaster which I had been fixing up for the last year (see this article to learn about the flaming pig that nearly destroyed it). I even had time for a leisurely long hang out with an old friend visiting town (cheers, Chris!). So how did time open up for me all of a sudden?

I can think of three things that worked together.

  1. My lovely wife invited us to set a weekly vision for our home and garden projects, and also for hosting friends for meals. When we had open time, we returned to our vision.

  2. My coach, Nicole Tittmann, invited me to take my vision for my coaching practice to Adoration, to dialogue in prayer with Our Lord about it. While there, I also meditated on other aspects of my family life.

  3. A few of my ongoing projects are coming to an end. Our Thursday mornings were occupied by teaching at a local homeschool co-op, and now it is summer vacation. My weekly four hours of tutoring will also end this week. Opening up time on my calendar created breathing room for other work.

This week, I invite you to apply whatever was most useful for you from this article to your life. Here are some questions to help you get started:

What resonated most with me about this article? What would change if I lived more from vision? What would change if I spent more time in prayer? What would change if I cleared more time in my calendar? What are my next steps in any of these areas for this week?

God bless,
Dan
