Creating Motivation

A person once told me, “I’ve had a hard time for several years finding motivation to do anything. I don’t think it’s clinical depression but it’s been a challenge.” I asked this person, “What is your system for creating motivation?” They were surprised by the question and laughed saying, “That’s a very unusual question.”

The idea to ask this came because I had been reading the book The Power of Systems by Steve Chandler. In it, he shares a system he has for creating inspiration. He collects quotes, videos, and books that inspire him and he has a routine of engaging with these resources regularly to create inspiration.

We often wait around for things such as motivation, inspiration, or happiness; but what if these states were something we could create?

This week, I invite you to practice ownership of your mood and energy.

What is a particular feeling or state that I wish I had more of? What is one I wish I had less of? If I could create a system to achieve this, what would it be?

God bless,
Dan
