Why Your Vision Should Make You Panic

Your vision for your future should make you panic, at least a little. If you already know how to get there, you might not be dreaming big enough. Recently, someone said to me that there are three regions for action: your comfort zone, your growth zone, and your panic zone. They said that we should work in our growth zone. If we work in our comfort zone, we don’t grow. If we work in our panic zone, we shut down. Somewhere in the middle is the ideal zone for stretching yourself and achieving growth.

As I reflected on this, I had the following insight: your vision for your future should be in your panic zone; your next steps toward it should be in your growth zone. Your vision should give you a rollercoaster-y feeling, exciting but a little scary. Maybe not full on panic, but almost. In my experience, committing to this sort of vision and then breaking it down into steps big enough to have an impact but small enough to not overwhelm is a great path toward life-changing results.

This week, I invite you to ask:

How big is my vision for my next ten years? What feelings does it produce in me? How close are they to rollercoaster-y?

What are my steps toward this vision in the next two weeks? Are these in my comfort zone, growth zone, or panic zone?

God bless,
Dan
