Why You Shouldn’t Pursue the Things You’re Interested In Accomplishing
Are you feeling scattered? Is your attention spread thin? Perhaps it’s because your mental band-width is occupied by the many things you are interested in instead of the few things you are actually committed to. The following framework from the book Straight Line Leadership can help you accelerate your progress from A to B.
List the things you are interested in accomplishing.
List the things you are committed to accomplishing.
List the things you are committed to accomplishing later.
List what you are committed to accomplishing now.
After this, you get to work. You do each thing required to accomplish the thing you are committed to now (this hour, today, etc.). Everything else is temporarily set aside. I’ve found this way of thinking liberating. It has allowed me to keep my heart more open to what is at hand, both in my work and in time spent with family and friends.
This week I invite you to ask:
How much clarity do I have about what I am committed to vs. what I am merely interested in? How would my life change if I lived from this distinction regularly?
God bless,
Dan
