Putting Things In Order, Shaking Them Up
Recently, I’ve had a season of joyful contentment and gratitude. I’ve been pondering what has changed, since the season before this one had more frustration and discontent. Here is what I’ve hit upon: over the last week, several domains of my life that were scattered and incomplete have started coalescing into a more complete order. My animal pen is nearly finished and my dairy goats have arrived (in case you’re wondering, Oreo and Freesia are their names). The yard is cleared of the materials and tools I used to build the goat shed. My chickens and their messy brooder are off my back porch and the hens now roam freely with the goats in the spacious animal pen. I’ve also started using more systematic processes to manage various aspects of my work.
This season of increasing order was preceded by the upsetting of a prior order. I went from having no animals to having a small herd, from having an empty yard to managing a worksite, from having a regular 9-5 job to being an independent contractor in four different jobs. Sometimes what’s needed to live more deeply is a season of ordering. Other times, what’s needed is a season of disruption.
This week, I invite you to ask yourself:
What is an area of my life that would be better if it were more ordered? What will I do this week to make it more ordered?
What is an area of my life that would benefit from being disrupted? What will I do this week to disrupt it?
God bless,
Dan
